He graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Turin Polytechnic in the field of Mechanical Vibrations (supervised by Prof. Bruno Piombo) with the thesis titled "Numerical-Experimental Comparison of Dynamic Characteristics of a Sample Structure", which was carried out in collaboration with the Structural Dynamic Research Laboratory (SDRL) of the University of Cincinnati (Oh, USA), (Prof. Dave Brown) (1991-92).

Then, the scientific activity has been developed together with the professional one. In fact, the increasing of knowledge of Product / Process optimization techniques has allowed the development of the ability to conduct methodological activities related to the applications of these techniques with significant results. The constant collaboration with the Department of Innovation Engineering of the University of Salento (since 1998) has led to the development of topics of common interest in the technologies and processing systems field. Since 2001 he has been increasingly responsible for the proposal and coordination of numerous Industrial Research projects in the field of Industrial Technologies and Production Systems both in the regional and national levels.

During his career, prof. Antonio Del Prete has held positions of growing responsibility until he comes to the Leadership of the Technical Initiative that Altair Engineering, the leading US multinational in the development of Product / Process and Business Intelligence simulation technologies, intends to implement to develop the application of optimization techniques. Altair Engineering's company profile has enabled him to establish technical relationships with Leader Companies in the Manufacturing and Research Industry sector, such as: Fiat Chrysler Automobile (both Technical and Technological Direction), Ferrari, Iveco, Fincantieri, ItalDesign, CRF (Centro Ricerche Fiat - Fiat Research Center ), IVECO, ELASIS Scpa (Fiat Research Center for South Italy), ATR (Advanced Composite Materials), DUCATI, Case-New Holland, Centro Sviluppo Materiali (CSM, Center for Material Development), GE AvioAero, GE Oil & Gas (Nuovo Pignone), Leonardo’s Aircraft Division. Human and professional growth has also occurred thanks to the constant technical and scientific training on Numerical Calculation Methodologies as well as on the main software tools used both in the Research and in the Industry.

From March 2013 he is Technical-Scientific Coordinator and member of the Board of Directors of the University of Salento’s spin-off company Advantech - LIKE (Lifecycle-Innovation-Knowledge-Engineering). Advantech is the result of the need to join robust knowledge and skills into various areas: Professor. Antonio Del Prete is author and co-author of over 100 publications of international significance and reviewer for several international journals:

He has been and is currently coordinator of 7 PhD programs in the field of Engineering of Production Systems and Technologies. Since 2016 he is Board Member of the Apulian Aerospace Technology District, representing the participating SMEs.
