Giuseppe Agostino MELE


Graduated in Chemistry from the University of Bari in 1990. He has received his PhD degree in Chemical Sciences in 1995 carrying out activities of research at the Department of Chemistry and MISO (Innovative Methodologies in Organic Synthesis)-Centre of the University of Bari. Beginning 1994 until 1996 he was enrolled as teacher of chemistry in high schools.

Since 1997, he was enrolled, as Assistant Professor, at the Faculty of Engineering and joined at the Department of Engineering for Innovation at the University of Lecce, where he is currently working as Associate Professor. He is involved in the field of Fundamentals of Chemical Technologies, teaching courses on Chemistry at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Salento. Also, he is a member of the Teaching Council (Collegio Docenti) of the Doctoral School in “Materials and Structures Engineering”.

He is author (or co-author) of more than 100 scientific papers and more than 100 communications (poster_oral) in national and international conferences.

Main researches interests: - Catalysis and Photocatalysis - Green Chemistry (low environmental impact processes). - Synthesis and characterization of organic and/or metal-organic compounds (e.g. fullerenes, phthalocyanines, porphyrins) as precursor of new hybrids and functional materials.

Projects participation: - COFIN-MIUR (1998, 2002, 2003). - Interuniversity Consortium “Chemistry for the Environment” (INCA-Consortium) projects. - project having national, regional or provincial relevance. - scientific responsible of the Italian part of the ECODONET Interreg III Italy-Grecee project (PIC 2000-2006). PON 2HE. SISTEMA.

He is the scientific responsible of the project entitled: 'Engineered Materials from Renewable Resources' within the framework of the executive program of scientific and technological cooperation between Italy-Egypt 2013-2015. Pesquisador Visitante Especial 2015-2017 and participant in other projects at the Federal University of Cearà, Fortaleza, Brazil.

(1996) Visit Scientist at the Ottawa University -Canada.

(1998) Post Doctoral Assistant at the Ottawa University -Canada.

(July - 2001) Invited Lecturer at 38 th IUPAC Congress, World Chemistry Congress, Brisbane, Australia.

(October 2006) Visit Scientist, at the Federal University of Cearà di Fortaleza-Brazil.

(October 2006) Invited Lecturer  - V Encontro da Sociedade Brasileira de Pesquisas em Materiais - SBPMat (International Symposium on Hybrid Materials and their Applications) - Florianópolis-SC., Brazil.

(January 2007-september 2009) meetings in the framework of the “ECODONET” project (PIC INTERREG Grecia-Italia 2000-2006) with the partnership of the University of Ioannina (Greece).

(May 2007) Visiting appointment for ERASMUS project at the Opole University -Poland.

(November 2007) Invited Lecturer at the 1st Brazilian Workshop on Green Chemistry, the Federal University of Cearà di Fortaleza, Cearà, Brazil.

(May 2009). Monitoring visit for ERASMUS project at the Opole University -Poland.

He has acted as evaluator of proposals submitted under the framework of the National Research Foundation (South Africa), ANCS (Romania), FIRB (Italy)actions.

He acted as the Guest Editor of the special Issue 'Tetrapyrroles, Porphyrins and Phthalocyanine' published in 'Molecules' (ISSN 1420-3049).

He acts as reviewer for many international journals in the fields of Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
